After being bedevilled by three postponements at different times, the Nigeria Premier League finally kicked off on Saturday November 6th 2010 with the season's opening match between Kaduna United and Kano Pillars in Kaduna.
The twenty-team league, which is yet to have a sponsor (at least as at the time this post was made) continued the following day, Sunday November 7th 2010 with the remaining nine mathes for the week one. For a full list of week one's result read my post WEEK ONE RESULTS OF 2010/2011 NIGERIA PREMIER LEAGUE. The twenty teams participating in the league are Bukola Babes FC, Crown FC,Dolphin FC, Enyimba Int'l FC, Gombe Utd FC, Heartland FC, JUTH FC, Kaduna Utd, Kano Pillars, and Kwara Utd. The rest are Lobi Stars FC, Niger Tornadoes, Ocean Boys FC, Plateau Utd FC, Rangers Int'l FC, Sharks FC, Shooting Stars, Sunshine Stars FC, Warri Wolves FC and Zamfara Utd FC.
The league's defending champion, Enyimba Int'l FC of Aba began the defence of their title with a tricky home tie against Ocean Boys FC. Other eye-catching fixtures for week one include Shooting Stars of Ibadan (or 3SC as they are often called) taking on Sunshine Stars of Akure in a potentially interesting South West derby and Kwara United playing away at Warri Wolves.
